Below are four basic exercises you can follow to improve your posture.
Child’s Pose:
This exercise stretches your spine and lengthens your hamstrings and glutes. It will help you relax and release tension in your neck and lower back area.
To perform this exercise:
- You have to sit on your shinbone with your knees and toes flat to the surface. Make sure to sit on a mat otherwise you can get injured.
- By keeping your arms straight, gently put your head down and try to sink into the surface as much as possible.
- Breathe deeply and relax for around 5 minutes in this posture.
Cat-Cow:
This exercise massages and stretches your spine. It aids t to relieve tension in the shoulder, torso, and neck which, in turn, promotes blood circulation.
To perform this exercise:
- Stand on your knees and level your palms and knees to shoulder distance. Don’t forget to grab your mat before doing this exercise.
- Now, while looking up vertically, relax your waist and bend your abdomen inwards making a U-sign.
- Consequently, while looking downwards, contract your waist and bend it outwards making an inverted U-sign.
- Continue to do this inward and outward motion for around 1 minute.
Chest Opener:
This Exercise stretches your chest and allows you to open your chest as well. It is perfect for those who have a 9-to-5 desk job as it helps to strengthen your chest muscles.
To perform this exercise:
- Stand with your feet parallel to your shoulders and look straight in front of you.
- Take your arms to the back and join your hands by gripping your fingers. If you cannot bring your hands together, use a towel to hold them in between your hands.
- Stretch your arms backward while inhaling and looking up and exhale to relax.
- Do this 10 times for one set.
High Plank:
This exercise helps to relieve stiffness and pain in all the affected areas and the core of your body. It strengthens your shoulders, hamstrings, and glutes. Development and improvement of body balance are attained with the help of this exercise.
To perform this exercise:
- Stand on your four limbs while keeping your arms and legs straight so that your arms are perpendicular to the surface and your legs form an angle with the ground.
- Look in front and try to focus on your shoulder and core muscles.
- Stay in this position for at least 1 minute.
